Denham-Group-Nationalpark

The Denham Group National Park (English Denham Group National Park ) is a 90.7 -acre national park in Queensland, Australia. It consists of a total of seven coral islands and is located within the UNESCO World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

Location

The National Park is 700 kilometers north of Cairns on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula in the Coral Sea. The islands are located 75 km south of Cape York, the northern tip of the peninsula, 12 to 25 kilometers from the coast.

In the vicinity of the Coral Sea are the national parks Saunders and Possession Islands Iceland, on the mainland Jardine River.

Provincial nature

The National Park consists of seven coral islands Aplin, Milman, Cholmondeley, Wallace, Sinclair and Cairncross Islet (English Islet means small island) and Boydong Iceland. The smallest are only a few hundred meters long, the largest, Boydong Iceland, has a length of nearly one kilometer.

Flora and Fauna

From the man almost untouched, the islands numerous plants and animals including the endangered soot Oystercatcher ( Haematopus fuliginosus ), Little Tern ( Sternula albifrons ), Isabellbrachvogel (Numenius madagascariensis ) and Rifftriel provide both habitat and breeding sites, ( Esacus giganteus).

Hawksbill turtle ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) and green turtle (Chelonia mydas) lay their eggs on the different islands. Milan Iceland is home to the largest breeding colony of the Great Barrier Reef of classified as endangered hawksbill turtle.

The vegetation in the national park varies from island to island, there are grasslands, small patches with low- growth forest, mangroves and scrubland. On Wallace Iceland is a small town with Pisonia grandis is a particularly sensitive plant from the family of the magic flowers plants ( Nyctaginaceae ).

The surrounding islands reefs and extensive seagrass beds are an important habitat for dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles and saltwater crocodiles.

In order not to disturb the animals on the islands during the breeding, to enter the islands of September 1 should be avoided until March 31. The entry of Milman and Aplin Iceland is prohibited year-round. In addition, camping is not permitted anywhere inside the National Park.
