Staaten-River-Nationalpark

The States River National Park (English River States National Park ) is a 4,700 square kilometer National Park on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia. The lake of States River flows through the park.

Location

The park is located in the region of Far North Queensland and is located 320 kilometers west of Cairns and 220 kilometers northeast of Normanton. The Burke Developmental Road passes at a distance of a few kilometers along the northern Park boundary. There are neither roads nor visitor facilities in the park.

In the vicinity of the national parks Errk - Oykangand, Buller Inga and Chillagoe Caves Mungana lie.

Environment

One of the largest, nearly pristine areas of tropical savanna landscape in Queensland is protected in the States River National Park. The dominant vegetation type is savanna woodland crossed by ephemeral rivers, with a small number of permanent and semi-permanent waterholes. Only a few exotic plants and feral pets have been sighted in the park.

The States River Important Bird Area comprises the area of the national park, because this is an important population of over a thousand, the endangered Golden-shouldered Parakeet ( Psephotus chrysopterygius ) is located. Domestic pigs, however, destroy the Nisthügel this parrot species and reduce their food supply. If the number of pigs on hand in the area of the park, they are, as most recently in 2011, culled.

In addition, live in the park Wammentrappen ( Ardeotis australis), Langschwanztriele ( Burhinus grallarius ), belt grass finches ( Poephila cincta ), Maskenamadinen ( Poephila personata ), Buntloris ( Psitteuteles versicolor) and various types of honey eaters.
