Broad-Sound-Islands-Nationalpark

The Broad Sound Islands National Park (English: Broad Sound Islands National Park ) is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of Queensland. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

The park in front of the coast consists of 48 small islands that are very remote and difficult to reach. This makes them virtually unaffected by the influences of civilization.

In the vicinity the Keppel Bay Islands National Park, Northumberland Islands and Percy Isles lie; on the mainland West Hill and Cape Palmerston.

Location

It is located 709 km north-west of Brisbane and 137 km south-east of Mackay.

Fauna

On the islands are two of the largest nesting areas for the endangered flatback turtle ( Natator depressus ).
