Cape-Palmerston-Nationalpark

The Cape Palmerston National Park (English: Cape Palmerston National Park ) is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of Queensland.

Location

It is located 748 km north-west of Brisbane and 115 km south- south-east of Mackay. The park protects one of the few remaining pristine stretches of coastline between Bowen and St Lawrence.

Landforms

Characteristic of the National Park are rocky headlands, sand dunes, swamps and rainforests. The highest point is the 344 m high Mount Funnel.

Flora and Fauna

In the park there are rain and mangrove forests, as well as bright woodland with Eucalyptus. On the hilltops grow eucalyptus forests, while in the narrow valleys are Myrtenheiden at home.

In the swamps there are frogs and other inhabitants of wetlands. On the beaches nesting stone curlews. Two-color fruit pigeons are in winter and spring found in the park. This is the southern boundary of its range. Off the coast can be observed in the winter months humpback whales and sea turtles swimming in the water.

Access and facilities

The park is accessible from the Bruce Highway (exit Ilbilbie ). The roads in the park are unpaved, which is why only four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

There are two campgrounds in the park, but possess only basic equipment. Even " wild camping " is allowed. One of the two campsites is equipped with a slipway for boats.
