Coalstoun-Lakes-Nationalpark

The Coalstoun Lakes National Park (English: Coalstoun Lakes National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland.

That area has been designated by the Administrator of the nearby Ban Ban Station, Wade Brun, after the corresponding field in his native Scotland. With only 0.26 km ² it is the smallest national park in Queensland.

Location

It is located 236 km north-west of Brisbane and 22 kilometers south west of Biggenden the Isis Highway.

Landforms

The park is located on Mount Le Brun, a volcano whose crater both occasionally fill with some water. The shallow crater lakes are the Coalstoun Lakes. The now extinct volcano formed about 600,000 years ago, making it one of the youngest volcanoes in Australia.

Flora

The lakes are surrounded by dry rainforest, one of the few places in the area where this vegetation society still occurs. Bottle trees, Moaholz ( Flindersia australis) and Leopard Ash can be found there. The Herzblattbosistoa ( Bosistoa selwynii ), an endangered plant that grows in the undergrowth.

Facilities

There is a 1 km long road to the northern crater. Camping is not permitted in the park.
