Poona-Nationalpark

The Poona National Park (English: Poona National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. It is located 210 km north of Brisbane and twelve kilometers south-east of Maryborough.

Some of the trees and animals in this National Park are listed as endangered.

Provincial nature

The area of the National Park is located between the estuary of the Mary River and the Great Sandy Strait and contains the coastal area also has two small islands. It consists mainly of forests and wetlands.

In the neighborhood of the National Park Great Sandy, Mount Bauple and Pipeclay lie.

Flora and Fauna

In the park there is Wallumheideland that covered the entire coastal region before European settlement, but today is rare and worthy of protection. There are also Myrtenheiden (eg Melaleuca viridiflora ) mangroves and sparse forests with banksia and blue -gum eucalyptus (Eucalyptus maidenii ). Particularly threatened plants are the coral diamonds ( Boronia keysii ) and the Macrozamien ( Macrozamia pauli- guilielimi ).

Of the birds are particularly vulnerable Erdsittiche, who found in their habitat Wallumheideland to mention.

Facilities and access

In the national park, camping is not permitted and there are no landscaped paths or other facilities. South of the park there is the small settlement of Poona with a campground.

The park is easily accessible from the street Maryborough - Cooloola or out of reach of the Boonooroo Road. Access roads and roads in the park are is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles and only in dry weather.
