Lochern-Nationalpark

Location

It is located 1047 kilometers west of Brisbane and 100 kilometers south-west of Longreach in the valley of the Thomson River, a part of the Channel Country.

In the vicinity of the national parks Gone Away, Welford, Idalia and Bladensburg are.

Provincial nature

The National Park extends over 20 kilometers along the Thomson River. Many water holes that are filled throughout the year, are in the park.

Flora and Fauna

The area is predominantly grassland. One finds all kinds of Mitchellgras, but also Mulga.

The permanent water holes provide a retreat and resting areas for waterfowl and migratory birds, as well as for other wildlife such as kangaroos.

Facilities and access

The wild camping is permitted on the Broadwater Waterhole, but there are no special facilities. There is no driving or hiking trails, but the entire terrain can be negotiated with all-wheel drive vehicles or bicycles or even hiked.

The very remote National Park is on the Thomson Developmental Road (Exit Ban Ban, 100 kilometers south-west of Longreach ) reachable. From the main road, a dirt road leads 40 km to the west of the park on the banks of the Thomson River.
