Lindeman-Islands-Nationalpark

The Lindeman Islands National Park (English: Lindeman Islands National Park ) is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of Queensland.

Location

It is located 885 km northwest of Brisbane and approximately 75 kilometers north of Mackay. The archipelago of the Lindeman Islands lie south of the Whitsunday Islands National Park on the continental shelf in the Coral Sea.

The group consists of 14 islands, the largest of Lindeman Iceland itself. In addition, include Baynham Iceland, Cornston Iceland, Iceland Gaibirra, Triangle Iceland, Iceland Keyser, Little Lindeman Iceland, Iceland Maher, Mansell Iceland, Iceland Pentecost, Seaforth Iceland, Iceland Shaw, Thomas Volskow Iceland and Iceland to this island group.

Nearby national parks Repulse Islands, Whitsunday Islands, Molle Islands and Smith Islands lie; on the mainland of the Conway National Park.

Geology

Like the Whitsunday Islands are the Lindeman Islands of volcanic origin. Outbreaks million before 110 years, gave rise in the area mountains, which sank later in the Coral Sea. The main island consists of erkaltetem magma, the other larger islands consist of granite. The small islands have a hard, volcanic core.

Flora

On the islands you will find rain forests on the more sheltered places, otherwise sparse forest and grasslands and wetlands. Frequent burning of the grasslands by the local Aboriginal people of the tribe of Ngaro prevented overgrown with bushes.

Facilities

Tent sites are available on Lindeman Iceland ( Boat Port ) and on Shaw Iceland ( Neck Bay). For both places you need permits. On Lindeman Iceland several hiking trails and also an airfield were created. The resort on Lindeman Iceland was operated until the sale in 2012 of Club Med. In addition, there on Seaforth Iceland have a short hiking trail.

Driveway

The 35 km south-east of Shute Harbour lying island group is accessible by private or commercial boats from there and from Airlie Beach.
