Mount-Coolum-Nationalpark

The Mount Coolum National Park (English: Mount Coolum National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. He is just over 100 kilometers north of Brisbane and about twelve kilometers north of Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast between Sunshine Motorway and the coast.

Provincial nature

Mount Coolum is a lava dome with nearly circular floor plan and steep rock crashes on its south side. The mountain, about a kilometer from the beach, rises abruptly from the coastal plain to an altitude of 208 meters. Its appearance resembles that of the Glass House Mountains, which lie further south. Mount Coolum is mainly composed of 25 million -year-old rhyolite which forms regular columns and connection patterns. A disused quarry can be found at the eastern foot of the mountain.

Flora and Fauna

The national park is known for its remarkable diversity of plants. More than 700 species have been recorded here. The main plant communities are eucalyptus forest, coastal Wallumheideland, Myrtenheiden wetlands, rare mountain heaths and also some rain forest.

At the rock crashes in the south, a peregrine falcon pair was observed nesting.

Facilities

A 800 -meter-long trail leads from the parking lot at the Tanah Street West in the settlement of Mount Coolum on the northeast flank of Mount Coolum. Initially, this road is still expanded flat and good, but becomes very steep and narrow. In humid weather, it is easily very slippery. About 140 people climb Mount Coolum daily.

On the mountain there is a warning light for taking off from the nearby Sunshine Coast Airport aircraft.
