Diamantina-Nationalpark
The Diamantina National Park is a national park in Queensland, Australia.
Location
It is located about 1278 kilometers north-west of Brisbane and 300 km south-west of Winton.
General
The park was established in March 1992 and covers about 507,000 ha, ranging from sandstone mountains in the east to the flat plane of the Diamantina River. In between are the Mitchell grasslands, dune fields and in the west a desert. Also, the Lake Constance and the Hunters Gorge are remarkable landscapes in the park.
History
In the past, the Aboriginal Maiawali and Karuwali lived in the park.
Flora and Fauna
The park is home to many plants and animals. Particularly noteworthy are rare mammals such as the bilby and the Kowari and birds such as the tumbleweeds and the peregrine falcon.
Tourism
There are the Hunters Gorge Campground, which is located about 10 kilometers north of the park management, as well as the Gum Hole Campground, located approximately 11 kilometers west of Hunters Gorge at Duck Creek.
