Moogerah-Peaks-Nationalpark

The Moogerah Peaks National Park (English: Moogerah Peaks National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland.

Location

It is located about 70 kilometers south-west of Brisbane and consists of four separate areas in the Fassifern Valley, which are grouped around Lake Moogerah.

In the west and south of this national park is the Main Range National Park.

Moogerah peaks

The Moogerah Peaks are a small mountain of volcanic origin. The mountains Mount French, Mount Edwards, Mount Moon and Mount Greville must be present in any one of the four parts of the National Park.

The Frog Buttress on Mount French are one of the most famous climbs in the state. The National Park surrounds the Lake Moogerah and so the Mount Edwards is accessible over the dam.

Flora and Fauna

Because of the relative inaccessibility of the park 's natural vegetation remained almost untouched. This is mainly eucalyptus forest, sclerophyllous vegetation and mountain heaths on schrofigem terrain. In sheltered places, there are some rain forest. Rainforest covered earlier the entire Fassifern Valley, but was cleared in time for the most part. Only in the national park area around Mount French you can still see remnants. Among the endemic plants include the Moogerah Peaks Leionema ( Leionema gracile ) and Mount Greville - sedge ( Arundinella grevillensis ). The Palm Gorge is located on Mount Greville in this narrow gorge is found Bangalow palms ( Archontophoenix Cunninghamia ) almost in pure culture.

The park is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, which was designated by BirdLife International because of its importance as a habitat for several endangered bird species as such.

Facilities

A campground, there are only national park part around Mount French at the Frog Buttress.

Hiking trails, there are also only around Mount French. In the other sections, you can also hike, but the walks through the bush are not specially serviced and are intended only for experienced hikers.

Driveway

All four parts of the National Park can be reached from Cunningham Highway (exit Aratula or Fassifern ) from. The Mount French is about four kilometers east of Fassifern on state road 90 Mount Edwards is located directly north of Lake Moogerah, about four kilometers south of Aratula. The Mount Greville is located southwest of Lake Moogerah, about two kilometers west of the settlement Moogerah. The approximately five kilometers south-east of the same settlement situated Mount Moon is surrounded by private land, so you have to ask for an access permit from the owners.
