Southern-Moreton-Bay-Islands-Nationalpark

The Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park (English: Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. He located 44 kilometers south-east of Brisbane and ten kilometers northeast of Coomera.

The group consists of four neighboring islands in Moreton Bay between the coast and South Stradbroke Iceland: Iceland Willes, Kangaroo Iceland, Iceland and Woogoompah Coomera Iceland. Also a part of something lying north Cobby Cobby Iceland is one of them.

History

Two of the larger islands, Woogoompah Iceland and Iceland Coomera, were formerly used as pasture. On Woogoompah Iceland you can still see remnants of this period, such as a cistern and a loading ramp for cattle. Inside of Coomera Iceland is a brackish lagoon system, which is surrounded by cleared areas.

Flora and Fauna

To the five islands are more than half of all mangroves in Moreton Bay. On Kangaroo Iceland also casuarinas grow.

In the mangroves and adjacent mudflats to fish, jellyfish, sea turtles, dugongs and feel at ease. The islands are part of Moreton Bay and Pumicestone Passage Important Bird Area, which was designated by BirdLife International because there will find large amounts of train, water and beach birds their habitat.

Facilities and access

At low tide on Cobby Cobby Iceland arises a beach that is recommended as a picnic area. Also on Kangaroo Iceland you can find a short piece of beach at low tide. Tents which are also allowed on the islands, but not recommended because of the dense mangrove and the many sand flies and mosquitoes.

The islands are accessible only by private boat.
