Hope-Islands-Nationalpark
The Hope Islands National Park (formerly Snapper Iceland and Hope Islands National Park ) is a national park in Queensland, Australia. It is located 1521 km northwest of Brisbane.
Location
The park consists of four islands: East Hope and Hope West Iceland, Iceland and Snapper Struck Iceland.
- The Hope Islands are located about 37 kilometers southeast of Cookstown and 8 kilometers from the coast. These two island located on two separate reefs that are separated by a deep-water zone.
- Struck Iceland is a rocky island off Thornton Beach, which is located south of Cape Tribulation.
- Snapper Iceland is located in the mouth of the Daintree River, and is about 2 kilometers long. This island is located about 20 kilometers north of Port Douglas
Flora and Fauna
While Westhope Iceland is a raised coral rubble island, which is only sparsely covered with vegetation, Easthope Iceland is formed of finer soil materials, which was covered by dense their stabilization.
Due to the soil conditions at Westhope Iceland lacks freshwater resources. Here therefore dominate the saltwater mangrove acceptable. On Easthope Iceland, the vegetation is, however, formed more abundant.
The islands are, inter alia, Livelihood for more than 25 species of seabirds. Westhope Iceland is considered one of the most important breeding areas for seabirds in the whole area of the Great Barrier Reef. In addition, colonies of the two-color fruit dove ( Ducula bicolor) and Easthope Iceland come before a colony of black flying fox ( Pteropus alecto ).
Tourism
An official, regular ferry service to the islands does not exist. The camping on the island is very limited and requires good preparation and self-sufficiency advance.
History
The Hope Islands were named by Captain James Cook after he was with his ship Endeavour on the nearby reef, then today named as the Endeavour Reef, accrued in June 1770.
