Smith-Islands-Nationalpark

The Smith Islands National Park (English: Smith Islands National Park ) is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of Queensland. It is located 862 km north-west of Brisbane and 45 kilometers north of Mackay.

The group consists of sixteen islands south of the Whitsunday Islands and therefore part of the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

In the environment, the National Park South Cumberland Islands, Newry Islands, Repulse Islands, Lindeman Island and Brampton Islands lie.

Flora and Fauna

The islands are mostly with an open woodland, composed of niederwüchsigen trees, covered.

In these woods there are many wild animals and over the islands underline White bellied Sea-Eagle and Osprey. Around the islands can dugongs and sea turtles and humpback whales in the winter often (Megaptera novaeangliae ) to see.

Facilities and access

In Goldsmith Iceland there is a campground. It is equipped with toilets and picnic tables.

The islands are accessible only by private or chartered boats.
