Quoin Island National Park

The Mitirinchi - Iceland National Park (English: Mitirinchi Iceland National Park, formerly Quoin Iceland National Park ) is a national park in northeastern Australian state of Queensland.

The park is managed by the local Aboriginal people, together with the National Park Authority of Queensland under the Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land Status ( CYPAL ). Park and island are part of the Great Barrier Reef.

Location

It is located 1947 km northwest of Brisbane and 50 kilometers northeast of Lockhart River.

In the neighborhood of the National Park Forbes Islands, Iceland and Ma'alpiku Iron Range lie.

Provincial nature

The almost vegetation-free island is surrounded by a large body of water and is surrounded by a coral reef.

Fauna

Mitirinchi Iceland is an important nesting ground for all kinds of sea birds. The island is covered all over with guano. In the reef, there are also the rare soups and hawksbill turtles and a rich marine life.

Facilities and access

Trespassing on the island is not allowed and there are no facilities, both for the protection of nesting birds. However, one must reside with private or charter boats near the island and so watch the birds.
