Forbes Islands National Park

The Wuthara - Iceland National Park (English: Wuthara Iceland National Park ) is a national park in northeastern Australian state of Queensland. Earlier called Park Forbes Islands National Park.

Location

It is located 1962 km northwest of Brisbane and about 40 kilometers northeast of the Iron Range National Park and Lockhart River in front of the Cape Weymouth in the Coral Sea.

In the vicinity of the national parks Mitirinchi Iceland, Piper Islands, Iceland Ma'alpiku and Sir Charles Hardy Group lie.

Provincial nature

The park consists of three islands that lie on the continental shelf of Australia. Wuthara Iceland (formerly Forbes Iceland ) is in the north, the two smaller ( unnamed ) smaller islands south-west or south-east, the main island. Rocky slopes and capes rise from small, sheltered bays. The islands are surrounded by coral reefs.

Flora and Fauna

The islands are covered with low Myrtenheidengebüsch and grass.

Various water and other birds can be found on the islands.

Facilities and access

The wild camping is allowed on the main island, but there are no special facilities. However, no more than 10 people camp out at the same time there.

The National Park can be reached only by private boat from the harbor in Lockhart River. Lockhart River in turn is connected to the Peninsula Developmental Road, or Telegraph Road in the west over a 107 km long access road ( dirt road ).
