Keppel-Bay-Islands-Nationalpark

The Keppel Bay Islands National Park (English: Keppel Bay Islands National Park ) is a national park in the eastern part of the Australian state of Queensland.

The northern part of the Keppel Islands is a publicly accessible, 7,200 -acre national park, while the southern part of 1,040 acres is a scientific national park, which is not accessible to the public.

Location

It is located 528 km north-west of Brisbane and 45 kilometers north east of Rockhampton in the Keppel Bay.

Facilities

The camping is allowed on the following islands, after one has obtained permission obtained: North Keppel Iceland, Iceland Humpy, Middle Iceland, Iceland Miall, Conical Iceland, Iceland and Devided Pelican Iceland.

On North Keppel Iceland there are three hiking trails to the Mazie Bay Track (3.5 km), the Keppel Bay Lookout track (3.1 km) and the Iceland Hilltop Track (5.3 km). On Humpy Iceland there is the Ridgetop Trail (1,9 km).

In addition, reef walking at low tide are recommended, especially in the Mazie Bay.

History

From the 1950s to about 1994, there was on North Keppel Iceland is a small resort with 12 beach houses, which was run by family Walls. There was also a boat service.

After the site was acquired by the National Park Authority.

Driveway

The islands are accessible only by boat. These are available to rent in Yeppoon or Rosslyn Bay. Only the small islands Flat Perforated Iceland and Iceland are difficult to reach because they are very far away from the coast and around rocky.
