Pioneer-Peaks-Nationalpark

The Pioneer Peaks National Park (English Pioneer Peaks National Park ) is a 19 km ² national park in Queensland, Australia.

Location

It is located on the Bruce Highway, 32 km north- west of Mackay and 87 km south of Airlie Beach. In the National Park there are no roads, trails or other visitor facilities.

In the neighborhood of the National Park Newry Islands, Cape Hillsborough, Mount Martin, Reliance Creek and Mount Ossa lie.

Landforms

The highest peak in the park is the 590 m high Mount Blackwood, Mount Jukes are lower (547 m), Mount Adder (380 m) and Mount Mandurana (308 m). All are of volcanic origin and originated about 32 million years ago. Erosion in the course of time, the steep peaks have formed.

Flora and Fauna

In Pioneer Peaks National Park, there are some endemic animals such as the phyllurus isis from the family of geckos, which occurs only in the vegetated with rainforest slopes of Mount Blackwood and Mount Jukes, or Mixophyes fasciolatus from the family of Australian Südfrösche, a frog breeds in rivers and otherwise occurs only in Eungella National Park. The Yellow-footed mouse pouch, a small, carnivorous marsupial that has not been seen in Central Queensland since 1995, is located in the Pioneer Peaks National Park.
