Club career

Zambrano began his career at Academia Cantolao, where he played from 2000 to 2006. He then moved at the age of 16 years for FC Schalke 04, for whom he played in the A- youth and was captain. On 1 April 2012, the FC St. Pauli took the uncommitted in the loan purchase option on time. The contract was for both the 1st and the 2nd Bundesliga. About the transfer modalities, the clubs agreed not to disclose.

For the 2012/13 season Zambrano moved to Eintracht Frankfurt.
