Monastery Casamari ( Casamarium ) is a Cistercian abbey, in Lazio, Italy. It is located in the municipality of Veroli in the province of Frosinone. In Casamari is also an abbey nuns of the Congregation of Anagni: Casamari monastery ( nuns ).

History

The monastery was built on the ruins of the Roman city Cereatae. It takes its name (Casa Marii = house of Marius ) by the Roman Consul Gaius Marius born there. First, in 1009 the diocese collegiate Veroli the pin changed to 1030/1035 in a Benedictine abbey. The Benedictines were 1140-1152 by Pope Eugene III. of Cistercians from Clairvaux Abbey, one of the primary monasteries of the Order, replaced. Plant and buildings

Begun in 1203, rib-vaulted church was consecrated in 1217. There is a system in accordance with the bernhardi American plan in the form of a Latin cross.
