Demographics

In 1960 Casguran had 6900 inhabitants. This number nearly doubled to 12,128 residents in 1970 and has since risen at an average annual growth rate of 5.6 % for a further 76%. Between 1970 and 1975 the population decreased significantly from 12,128 back to 11,670. This decrease was due to unrest that caused many people to leave the territory of the municipality. The decline of the population in 1980 was balanced again. During this period the population grew by 19% with an annual growth rate of 3.86 %. This trend of rising population numbers continued in the following census periods (1980 to 1995). However, the annual growth rate declined, due to the fact that during this time the deforestation were gradually phased out. As a consequence, many forest workers, who were not long-established residents Casigurans, migrated.

Between 1995 and 1999 the annual growth rate rose again significantly at 4.36 %. With a constant growth rate, a further increase in population by 25 % is projected by 2009.

History

According to a popular legend, the name Casiguran is on the word Kasiguruhan ( German: "Security " or "Trust" ) due.

Casiguran was founded on 13 June 1609 by Spanish missionaries. The early settlers before the arrival of the Spaniards were Dumagats and Aetas followed by other immigrants from other parts of the country. These immigrants spoke Ilokano, Visayan Biscolano, Pampango, Gaddang, Itawes and Ibanag. At the time of Philippine independence in 1946, Aurora was still a part of the province of Tayabas (now Quezon ). The municipality then bordered by the province of Isabela in the north to the west by the province of Quirino, and on the southwest by the Baranggay Dinadiawan, which at that time formed the boundary between Baler and Casiguran.
