Castagnac

Castagnac is a commune with 304 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute- Garonne in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs to the community association Volvestre.

Geography

Castagnac located 24 kilometers northwest of Pamiers. The river Lèze touches the municipality.

Attractions

The Château de Castagnac castle was built at the end of the Middle Ages. It consisted of a square tower house with four round towers at the corners. The building was rebuilt in the 15th century in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is partially entered in the Register of Monuments historiques additional ( historical monuments ). A moat surrounds the castle.

The Gothic church of Castagnac houses a bell which was cast in 1531. It is classified as a monument historique since 1922.

Economy

There is a brick factory on site and a plant for drying and further processing of alfalfa for cattle feed. Other lines of business of Castagnacois are farming, viticulture, livestock breeding and tourism.
