Cedrelopsis

Cedrelopsis is a genus of flowering plants in the rue family ( Rutaceae ). It is native with about eight species in Madagascar.

Description

Cedrelopsis species grow as shrubs or trees. They have an aromatic smell. The alternate arranged leaves have a simple, elongated leaf blade.

The inflorescences are thyrsi. There are hermaphroditic, purely male and purely female flowers before ( polygamy ). The flowers are radial symmetry and fünfzählig double perianth. The five sepals are fused only at their base. There are five petals present. It's just a circle with five fertile stamens present. The sedentary, rarely two, usually three to fünfkammerige ovary is oblong. In each ovary chamber two ovules are present.

The history of systematic classification of this genus is changeable. In the processing for the Flore de Madagascar et des Comores from 1991 Cedrelopsis was filed together with the monotypic African genus Ptaeroxylon in the small family Ptaeroxylaceae. Later, an assignment to the mahogany family ( Meliaceae ) was performed. Meanwhile, the former Ptaeroxylaceae be included in the wider circumscribed Rutaceae ( Rutaceae ). The genus belongs to the subfamily Cedrelopsis Spathelioideae within the family of Rutaceae.

Species distribution

The genus includes the following eight types:

  • Cedrelopsis ambanjensis JFLeroy: it is known only from two to five sites in the provinces of Antsiranana and Mahajanga.
  • Cedrelopsis gracilis JFLeroy: it is known only from one location in the province of Toliara.
  • Cedrelopsis grevei Baill. & Courchet: It occurs in the provinces of Antsiranana, Mahajanga and Toliara.
  • Cedrelopsis longibracteata JFLeroy: it is known only from two to five sites in the provinces of Antsiranana and Toliara.
  • Cedrelopsis microfoliolata JFLeroy: It occurs in the provinces of Antsiranana, Mahajanga and Toliara.
  • Cedrelopsis procera JFLeroy: it is known only from two to five locations in the province of Antsiranana.
  • Cedrelopsis rakotozafyi Cheek & M.Lescot: it is known only from two to five locations in the province of Antsiranana.
  • Cedrelopsis trivalvis JFLeroy: It occurs in the provinces of Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa and Mahajanga.
