Certosa di Bologna

The Cimitero Monumental della Certosa di Bologna is a cemetery in Bologna. It lies outside the city walls, near the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, at the foot of the Colle della Guardia, on which the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca is.

The church cemetery was created in 1801, the existing structures of the monastery of San Girolamo di Casara were used, founded the mid-14th century and was dissolved in 1797 by Napoleon. The passion that developed nobles as commoners for the establishment of family tombs, transformed the Certosa in a veritable " open air museum ", which was to visit point of many trips to Italy; to visitors include Chateaubriand, Byron, Dickens, Mommsen, Stendhal. In addition to guided tours, concerts are held in the warm season.
