CFL Line 30

The railway line Luxembourg - water cheap, sometimes as Mosel - Syretal track called, is a railway connection in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg between Luxembourg City and the border with Germany at low water. It starts at Luxembourg station and first runs towards the south, then east through Syrtal the Moselle. When water is cheap they crossed the Sauer. The route is 37.4 km long.

History

The route was opened on August 20, 1861 by the Wilhelm- Luxembourg railway company.

In 1900 the line was expanded to double track on the Oetrange - water cheap border section. The doubling of the section Luxembourg - Oetrange was omitted for the time being, should, instead, the railway Berchem- Oetrange be created as a bypass path for the Luxembourg Railway Station. Since the construction work to the bypass path not really move came, the missing section Luxembourg - Oetrange but was expanded still double track at the end of the First World War by the German Reich

From 1956 to 1959, the line was electrified with the usual practice in Luxembourg voltage of 25 kV 50 Hz.

Route

Shortly after the Luxembourg train crossed the track using the imposing viaduct Pulvermühle the Alzette. From the junction city ground where the route to the Belgian border unthread, the route direction Oetringen falls into the single track Syrtal. The Oetrange station is next to Luxembourg and water cheap now the most important station on the route.

From Oetringen the railway line is double track again. Until Mertert it passes through Syrtal, as they swung from the Moselle valley. Behind the cheap water station the route is single track again.

Operation

On the track drive intercity trains and regional trains ( every hour ) from Luxembourg to Trier Hbf The Intercity trains are partially operated exclusively by Deutsche Bahn, regional trains also by the Luxembourg State Railways.

The timetable change in December 2014 on the Association rail transport Rhineland-Palatinate North had planned to introduce to significantly improve the connection of the Luxembourg railway network in the German Mosel route a continuous hourly regional train from Luxembourg to Koblenz and back. In trier of coming from Koblenz Regional Express should then be " winged ": one part to drive to Luxembourg, the other to Saarbruecken. However, since the planned rail connection from Luxembourg City has been stopped to the airport Findel and Kirchberg, is currently considered to guide the trains over the Luxembourg station until after Pfaffenthal addition, in order to operate from there the Kirchberg plateau.
