History

The settlement history of the village can be traced back to the times of the Celts and Romans, this is proved by the " Groëstaen " and the Celtic burial mounds ( tumuli ).

The forest wealth and the strong gradient of the Syr left the church in the mid-18th century the cradle of the Luxembourg steel industry .. 1755 founded Baron J. Ph. D' Arnoult et de Soleuvre, Lord Berburg, said after his possession Stahlhütte. 50 years later built J. L. Faber, the former tenant of the Berburger Hut, on beneath an iron factory gap. Finally, the cabin center was taken over by the Brothers Metz ( co-founder of Arbed ) and then adjusted when it was rediscovered in the south of Luxembourg Minette. The air gap work was to J. Lamort, printers and paper manufacturers from Luxembourg, sold. Since it was passed in the paper making textile rags on wood, delivered a built below Manternach wood grinding mill the requisite wood pulp. With the beginning of World War II came the abrupt end for the paper mill. After the war, B. Neis opened from Manternach a workshop for agricultural machinery. After the parental barn had become too small, the Syr factory buildings were erected on the shore where saws on Heubläser to threshers a wide range of products has been produced.

At present, the community is home to several wood - and metal-working mid-sized companies. Farms are still represented in greater numbers.

The construction of the adjacent highway section Trier- Luxembourg has in particular led to a population increase in Münschecker, which required the formation of an electoral district.

Lellig has been preserved most likely its rural character. The former cemetery was restored and is now a witness to the cultural past.

In Manternach is the seat of the municipal administration. Here the rectory was restored.

Given the strong population growth and activity of the local clubs was built in Berbourg a Centre scolaire et sportif.

As a reception center for the conservation zone " Manternacher fiels " was created in an old farm in the middle Manternach "A Wiewesch " where exhibits are the natural environment and history of the community as well as tourist information, for example through teaching and hiking trails available.

The community is a member of the local government associations SIAEG, SICEC, Sidere, SIGI, and SYNECOSPORT SYVICOL.
