Chancey

Chancey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chancey is located at an altitude of 260 m above sea level, 10 km north-east of Pesmes and about 27 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends to the south of the department, east of Saôneebene on a plateau to the west stretches the foothills of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​7.71 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 270 m. It is composed of Tertiary sediments and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. In the east it culminates at Mont, in the 298 m, the highest elevation of Chancey is achieved. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses. In the west, the municipality's area extends into the grove of the Bois de Riand, in the north to the Bois de la Feole.

Neighboring communities of Chancey are Venère and Bonboillon in the north, Hugier in the east, Motey visits to the south and Valay in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Chancey in 1262nd In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté Chancey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Chancey is a member of the comprehensive 18 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes.

Attractions

The village church of Chancey was rebuilt in the 18th century. Around the church there are several late medieval houses are grouped from the 16th to 18th centuries. Additional attractions include a former stately home and the Lavoir ( 19th century), formerly served as laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 165 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chancey is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1906 266 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Chancey has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including a stone quarry company. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D12, which runs from Pesmes by Gy. Further road links exist with Valay, Motey visits and Hugier.
