Hugier

Hugier is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Hugier situated at an altitude of 235 m above sea level, 6 km north- west of Marnay and about 25 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends to the south of the department, in a hollow in the headwaters of Ruisseau de la Fontaine de Magney in the southwestern foothills of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​7.08 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The central part of the area occupied by the wide trough Hugier of which is an average 230 m. It is drained to the Ognon by the Ruisseau de la Fontaine de Magney south. The area is primarily used for agricultural purposes. In the southeast of the trough from the hill of Bois de Bay ( to 280 m ) is limited. To the northwest, the municipality's area extends over a gently sloping hillside on the ridge of the Mont, which is composed of Tertiary sediments. With 302 m find the highest mountains of Hugier is achieved. With a narrow edge of the municipality sufficient ground to the southwest and includes the wooded ridge of the Bois du BEGE (285 m).

Neighboring communities of Hugier are Bonboillon and Tromarey in the north, Cult in the east, and Sornay Bay in the south and Motey visits and Chancey in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Hugier in 1173, when the village was given to the Premonstratensian Corneux. In the Middle Ages Hugier belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2002 Hugier is a member of the 15 localities municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Médard was built in the 18th century and has a richly carved wooden altar. In the village of numerous houses from the 16th to 18th centuries have been preserved, showing the characteristic style of the Haute -Saône. The Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle, was built around 1853.

Population

With 141 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Hugier one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 218 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Hugier was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards, vineyards and livestock ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Sornay after Bonboillon. Further road links exist with Chancey, Motey visits and Cult.
