Courcuire

Courcuire is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Courcuire situated at an altitude of 282 m above sea level, 7 km north-east of Marnay and about 19 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department, on a plateau in the southwest of the Monts de Gy, north of Ognon Valley.

The area of ​​7.06 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between the valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Courcuire, which is on average 280 m and has a length of four kilometers and a width of approximately one kilometer. The basin is primarily used for agricultural purposes. It is flanked by wooded hills of the Monts de Gy: In the southeast of the Bois de Plaimont passes (up to 320 m) to the valley of Ognon down and to the east is Grand Bois de Pin. In the west the plateau is bordered by the wooded ridge of Mont Marin, on the 355 m, the highest elevation of Courcuire is achieved. In geological terms, the terrain is composed of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous beds of the upper Jurassic and the Tertiary. The whole area shows no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Courcuire are Autoreille in the north, pin in the east, Beaumotte -lès- Pin in the south and Avrigney - Virey in the West.

History

Traces of a settlement site of the Neolithic indicate a very early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Courcuire in the year 1287. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté Courcuire came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2002 Courcuire is a member of the 15 localities municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The church Saint -Martin was built in the 18th century and has a remarkable interior. Also worth seeing are the Château de Courcuire ( 19th century ) and several houses dating from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 128 inhabitants ( 2005) Courcuire one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 212 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Courcuire was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from pin after Choye. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 17 km. Further road links exist with Brussey and Avrigney - Virey.
