Brussey

Brussey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Brussey situated at an altitude of 214 m above sea level, 3 km east-northeast of Marnay and about 18 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends to the south of the department, in the hollow of the village Bach on the northern edge of the valley of Ognon, at the southern foot of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​7.27 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognon Valley. The southern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon. This flows here with several turns through an alluvial plain, which has a width of about two kilometers and is on average 205 m. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward up through the valley and the adjacent, gently inclined slopes, which form the southern foothills of the Monts de Gy. These hills are composed of Tertiary sediments. While the talnahen areas are used predominantly agricultural, the ridge of the Bois de Fays is passed with forest. Here the highest elevation of Brussey is achieved with 336 m.

Neighboring communities of Brussey are Avrigney - Virey in the north, Beaumotte -lès- Pin in the east, Chevigney -sur- l'Ognon and Ruffey -le- Château in the south and in the west Marnay.

History

The remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement site and various other findings point to a very early settlement of the municipality. Is first mentioned in the year 950 Brussey In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2002 Brussey is a member of the 15 localities municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Maurice was built in the 18th century. It has a rich interior, including a crucifix from the 15th century as well as altars and pulpit from the building time. From the 16th century comes a great seat of power.

Population

With 217 inhabitants ( 2004) Brussey one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 276 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure
