Vregille

Vregille is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vregille situated at an altitude of 218 m above sea level, about 13 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department, in the valley of the Ognon of a wide bend in the river is characterized here by the south, across from Moncley, south of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​4.28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognon Valley. The southern border is always along the Ognon. This flows here with a large flow loop through a flat area, which has a width of about two kilometers and is on average 210 m. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley to the adjacent plateau, which is composed of Tertiary sediments. The plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. With 277 meters, the highest elevation of Vregille is achieved in the far north at the foot of the Monts de Gy. The western boundary runs along the Ruisseau de Poussot which opens a little less than Vregille in the Ognon.

Neighboring communities of Vregille are Gézier -et- Fontenelay in the north, Chambornay -lès- Pin and Sauvagney in the east, the south and Moncley pin in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Vregille belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Châtillon -le- Duc. Together with the Franche -Comté Vregille came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. From the 17th century until 1789 belonged Vregille the Courlet family, who built a castle here. Since 2002, the community is a member of the 15 localities municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The village church of Vregille was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The castle originally dates from the early 18th century, but was later modified several times. During the Franco-German War it served in 1870 as a military hospital. Today it houses a small museum.

Population

With 174 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vregille one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 132 persons were still counted ), a strong population growth has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vregille was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Etuz by Marnay. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 13 km.
