Moncley

Moncley is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Moncley is located at 225 m, about 13 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a terrace on the southern edge of Ognon Valley, on the edge of the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and in the north Ognon.

The area of ​​7.92 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The northern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows with several turns by about two kilometers wide, flat Talniederung and takes in a variety of short tributaries. From the river, the municipality's area extends south into the adjacent gently undulating countryside and down to the valley of the Lanterne, a left tributary of the Ognon. The entire south-eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the Bois du Grand Bugnoz, an extensive forest area. Here the highest elevation of Moncley is achieved with 255 m.

Neighboring communities of Moncley are pin, Vregille and Sauvagney in the north, Auxon lingerie in the east, and Pelousey Chaucenne in the south and Émagny in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Moncley made ​​since the 13th century the center of a reign. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village church of Moncley was rebuilt in 1771, with a side chapel of the previous building (16th century) has been integrated. The most striking building is the standing on the western edge castle, which was built in 1778 for the Marquis de François Terrier Santans in the style of French neoclassicism. Its facade shows a semicircle that opens to a park opposite the Ognon valley to. The castle was built on the site of the medieval castle.

Population

With 320 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Moncley one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 297 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Moncley was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the agglomeration Besançon their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Émagny after Devecey. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 11 km. Further road links exist with Chaucenne and Sauvagney.
