Berthelange

Berthelange is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Berthelange is located at 270 m, 19 km west-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village stretches northwest of Saint -Vit in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon ( in the north).

The area of ​​4.07 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the north Doubstals. Passing the part with arable and meadow land, partly with forest landscape shows only slight differences in relief. About the plateau the watershed between the Doubs and Ognon runs. Here the highest elevation of Berthelange is achieved with 294 m. To the west are the forest areas of the Bois des Cordes and Bois des Combottes. To the north, the municipality's area extends up to Talung the Ruisseau du Breuil ( left tributary of the Ognon ).

Neighboring communities of Berthelange are Ferrieres -les -Bois in the north, Saint -Vit in the east, the south and Evans Mercey -le- Grand in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Berthelange was already inhabited during the Gallo- Roman period. On the hallway Le Château wall foundations of a Roman villa were discovered. Is first mentioned Berthelange in 1130 under the name Bertold Pencil in a goods classification of the monastery Acey.

Attractions

The village church of Berthelange was inaugurated in 1869 and has a rich interior, including a marble altar, a tabernacle dating from the 18th century and richly carved furniture. In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté are from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Population

With 279 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Berthelange one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​110-130 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s. Economy and infrastructure
