Burgille

Burgille is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Burgille situated at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, 3 km south of Marnay and about 19 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in a slightly elevated position on the southern edge of the wide valley of Ognon, at the northern foot of the hills between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs.

The area of ​​9.28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognontals. The northern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon, the multiple turn it flows through about three kilometers wide valley to the west. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the location to an average of 200 m alluvial plain, which mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, and in the Talniederung the Ruisseau du Moulin de Chazoy. Further south, the land rises gradually to the hills and plateaus of the gently undulating countryside between Ognon and Doubs. This area shows a loose structure of meadow and woodland. History

The territory of Burgille was settled very early. Remains of a Roman villa have been preserved, which was inhabited probably the 1st and 2nd century AD and was one of the most important in the Franche -Comté. In the Middle Ages Burgille formed the center of a dominion which was under the suzerainty of the Dukes of Burgundy. Together with the Franche -Comté Burgille came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1972 when the previously independent municipalities Chazoy and Cordiron were fused with Burgille. Today Burgille is a member of the comprehensive 13 municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes des Rives de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The single village church of Burgille was built in the 16th century in the Gothic Flamboyant style. The present castle of Burgille comes from the mid-18th century; beside remains of an earlier building dating from the 16th and 17th centuries have been preserved. In Chazoy is a stately home in the 16th century, consisting of a square donjon and a stair tower. It is now used as a manor house, on the east façade has two large Renaissance window.
