Champagney (Doubs)

Champagney is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Champagney is located at 280 m, about 10 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a hill in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon ( in the north).

The area of ​​3.01 km ² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The western boundary runs along the Ruisseau de Noironte, a left tributary of the Ognon. From the creek, the municipality's area extends eastward across the hollow of a short side of Bach's up on the hill of Champagney. Here the highest elevation of Champagney is achieved with 301 m.

At Champagney the settlement Les Baraques part (250 m). Neighboring communities of Champagney are Noironte in the north, Champvans -les -Moulins in the east, Vaux- les- Prés and Mazerolles -le- Salin in the south and Audeux in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Champagney belonged to the dominion of Audeux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village church of Champagney was built in the 18th century. In the old town several houses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté are still preserved from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 260 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) 258 inhabitants ( 2006) Champagney is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 60 and 90 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has quintupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Champagney was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
