The Chandler River is a river in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales.

Geography

The river rises on the eastern slopes of the northern tableland of New South Wales, approximately 43 km north-east of Armidale. The entire river is located in the Armidale Dumaresq Local Government Area. The Chandler River, its tributaries Wollomombi River, Oaky River and Styx River, and the Apsley River, are known together with the main River Macleay River for its spectacular gorges and waterfalls in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.

The Chandler River flows from its source to the south and then falls over the Chandler Falls just a little east of Wollomombi Falls and just before the mouth of the River Wollomombi. From there, the river continues its course to the south continued, mostly through the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. After about 110 km of the Chandler River empties into the Macleay River.

History

The Chandler River was named by Captain Dumaresq after one of his stockmen.

Fauna

At the headwaters of the river calves are bred. Brumbies roaming around on the banks of the lower reaches.

Hiking trails and campgrounds

From the vantage point on the Wollomombi If there are lovely walks along the gorge ice edges and also a steep trail down to the Chandler River. Further down the campground Halls Peak is located on the river, which offers self-catering stay at remote places in the wild. The infrastructure there is very steep and exposed and overcomes approximately 700 meters. He is only for vehicles with all-wheel -drive and increased ground clearance, which are driven by experienced drivers, can be used.
