Charles Augustus Young

Charles Augustus Young ( * December 15, 1834 in Hanover, New Hampshire; † January 3, 1908 ) was an American astronomer.

Young studied at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he was appointed professor in 1865. In 1877 he moved to Princeton.

His main research topics were the solar eclipse and the spectroscopy of sunlight.

He was regarded as a particularly good teacher and wrote a very popular and widely read astronomical texts including a handbook of astronomy. Henry Norris Russell, Raymond Smith Dugan and John Quincy Stewart therefore called their 1927 textbook, published in Astronomy A Revision of Young's Manual of Astronomy.
