Charles Beckman

Charles Beckman (* March 1, 1965 in Louisville, Kentucky ) is a former American professional tennis player.

Life

Beckman studied at the University of Texas and was elected to the best selection All-American three times. In 1985, he was with Royce Deppe in NCAA doubles final. After finishing his studies in 1987 he was a professional tennis player. Earlier in his career he played with Mark Basham on unterklassigen tournaments. In early 1988, they reached at the Lipton International Players Championships the last sixteen and mid-year the semi-finals of Schenectady. Beckman won in 1989 on the side of Luke Jensen, the Challenger tournament in Raleigh. From mid-1989 Shelby Cannon was his new doubles partner. Following a joint semi-finals in Washington they were in August 1989 at the Canadian Open in doubles final of a Masters Tournament, which she lost to Kelly Evernden and Todd Witsken. This was also the biggest career success Beckmans. Towards the end of the year he still won two Challenger doubles title; in Rio de Janeiro with Cannon, and in Brasilia with Jean -Philippe Fleurian. In 1990, he was with Eric Jelen in the semifinals of Rotterdam, and with Luke Jensen in the semifinals of Bologna and Gstaad, and the following year it reached more semifinals. 1992 was slightly worse, highlight was the semi-finals of Charlotte. There, he played his last match in 1993 also. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1988 with position 355 in single and in 1990 with position 48 in doubles.

In the individual he was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. In the doubles competition, he reached the second round of the U.S. Open twice. In mixed he stood for both the French Open and the U.S. Open in the second round.
