Charles Lang

Charles Bryant Lang, Jr. ( born March 27, 1902 in Bluff, Utah, † April 3, 1998 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American cinematographer. With 18 Oscar nominations Long is one of the most successful cinematographers in film history.

Life

He started his career as co- cinematographer in 1926 with the film The Night Patrol. The first working as sole cameraman followed a year later with the film Ritzy. In 1931 he was nominated for an Oscar for the first time. His last work as a cameraman comes from the year 1973. Overall, he has been involved in over 140 productions.

Charles Lang is composed his colleague Leon Shamroy the most Oscar-nominated cinematographer in film history. A total of 18 times he was nominated, in 1934, he was awarded for the only time with the trophy. In 1991 he was honored by the American Society of Cinematographers with the " ASC Lifetime Achievement Award".

The actress Katherine Kelly Lang is his granddaughter.
