Chauvirey-le-Vieil

Chauvirey -le- Vieil is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chauvirey -le- Vieil is located at an altitude of 310 m above sea level, 3.5 km south of Vitrey -sur -Mance and 35 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northwestern part of the department, on a promontory above the confluence of the Ruisseau de Gailley in the Ougeotte, on the eastern slopes of the plateau of Langres.

The area of ​​3.37 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau of Langres west of the upper Saônetals. The northern boundary runs generally along the Ougeotte that provides for drainage Saône. The flat alluvial plain is usually less than 500 meters wide and is on average 250 m. To the south, the municipality's area extends to the edge of Chauvirey -le- Vieil and up in the neighboring Bois de l' Hourie, in the 341 m, the highest point of the village is reached. To the east of this valley cut by the projection of the Ruisseau de Gailley is limited. Further east, the plateau of the Charaumont connects ( to 320 m). History

Finds from prehistoric times suggest a very early settlement of the area. There wall foundations of a Roman estate, as well as numerous tile fragments were unearthed. In the Middle Ages Chauvirey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The existence of the noble family of Chauvirey is attested since the 11th century. Strategically located Chauvirey -le- Vieil formed over a long time an important borough. In the 14th century the rule was divided into Châtel to Châtel -Dessous -Dessus. As the noble family became extinct in the sequence, the gentlemen learned several changes of ownership. Located close to the Burgundian border, Chauvirey -le- Vieil was occupied in 1674 during the invasion of the French king Louis XIV as a first resort. Attractions

The Church of Chauvirey -le- Vieil was rebuilt in the 18th century. In-room amenities include the main altar from the 17th century, three Renaissance paintings, a crucifix from the 16th century and various statues from the 17th and 18th centuries. The present castle was built in 1757. Chauvirey -le- Vieil has a museum that displays ancient craft equipment and crafts made ​​of wood.

Population

With 32 inhabitants (2007 ) Chauvirey -le- Vieil is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 151 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Chauvirey -le- Vieil is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes above a secondary road that leads from Vitrey -sur -Mance after Membrey.
