Charmes-Saint-Valbert

Charmes- Saint- Valbert is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Charmes- Saint- Valbert situated at an altitude of 263 m above sea level, 14 km west of Combeaufontaine and 35 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the rolling countryside on the southeast edge of the plateau of Langres, in the valley of rigotte, at the northwest foot of the Montagne de la Roche.

The area of ​​exactly 5 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau northwest of the Saônetals. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the rigotte that provides for drainage Saône. The flood plain is on average 260 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. Flanked the valley on its south-east side of the height of the Bois du Buisson Brûlé (331 m), the northernmost completion of the Montagne de la Roche. From the North opens in Chamres -Saint- Valbert the valley of the Ruisseau de la Chapelle and his side Bach Ruisseau des Ongles. With 380 m Bois is achieved the highest elevation of Charmes -Saint- Valbert on the edge of the Grands. History

Finds from Gallo-Roman point to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages charm belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The Priory of charm subordinate to the monastery of Luxeuil. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Charmes- Saint- Valbert is a member of the comprehensive 17 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen.

Attractions

The village church of Charmes -Saint- Valbert was rebuilt in the 19th century. It houses a rich interior, including a crucifix from the 17th century and statues from the 18th century. In the cemetery there is a stone cross, which is dated 1634. Just outside the village is the source of Saint- Valbert whose water healing power is attributed with eye problems.

Population

With 49 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Charmes- Saint- Valbert one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, a significant population decline was recorded (1891 222 people were still counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Charmes- Saint- Valbert is still a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Pierrecourt after Malvillers. Another road connection with Pressigny.
