Lavigney

Lavigney is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lavigney situated at an altitude of 252 m above sea level, 6 km west of Combeaufontaine and 28 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the west of the département, in the gently undulating landscape on the plateau north of the Saone, Talniederung the Sorlière.

The area of ​​9.93 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From northwest to southeast, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung the Sorlière, which provides for the drainage of the Gourgeonne Saône. The flood plain is on average 245 m and has a maximum width of 500 m. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 270 m. In geological terms is Lavigney is in a transition area. The northwestern part consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the lower Jurassic period, while emerge in the southeast layers of the upper Jurassic period. The area is divided by several faults.

History

Is first mentioned in the year Lavigney 1294th In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the family Vergy. Together with the Franche -Comté Lavigney came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The former castle with four corner towers was demolished in 1910. Today Lavigney is a member of the 10 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Belles Fontaines.

Attractions

The village church of Lavigney was rebuilt in the 18th century. The municipal area there are several Calvaires from the 17th century. The town center is dominated by houses from the 16th to the 18th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. About the Sorlière lead two stone bridges from the 18th century.

Population

With 124 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Lavigney one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 334 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Lavoncourt after Augicourt. Further road links exist with Gourgeon, Cornot and Malvillers.
