Chémery -les -Deux ( German Schemmerich ) is a commune with 484 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the canton in the Arrondissement Bouzonville Boulay -Moselle.

Geography

The community Chémery -les -Deux in the northwest of the department lies at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, eight kilometers west of Bouzonville and large-scale considered about halfway between Saarlouis and Thionville. History

Chémery -les -Deux is, as the name ( deux = two ) suggests two settlements. The older, larger and more northerly part ( Chémery -la -Vieille ) built in the 13th century and first subordinate to the monastery in Freistroff, from 1604 to the Benedictine monastery of Sainte -Croix in Bouzonville. The further south Chémery -la -Neuve (today Petit Chémery ) was founded by Didier de Colligny, an abbot of the monastery Freistroffer. The new plant of the town in 1570 was due to the favorable location right on the road from Thionville on Bouzonville in the Saarland. The separation of the community into two parts can be seen even today, between the two lies a 100 meter wide green strip of land along a stream bed.
