Chengalpattu (Taluk)

The Taluk Chengalpattu (Tamil: செங்கல்பட்டு வட்டம்; earlier Chingleput ) is a taluk ( subdistrict ) of Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Capital is the eponymous town Chengalpattu.

Geography

The Taluk Chengalpattu is located on the coast of the Gulf of Bengal. It borders on the taluks Tirukalukundram in the south, Uthiramerur in the West, Kanchipuram and Sriperumbudur in the northwest and Tambaram and Sholinganallur in the north. In the southwest of the Palar River limits the Taluk Chengalpattu.

The Taluk Chengalpattu is congruent with the block Kattankolathur and Thiruporur. Its area is 772.8 square kilometers.

Population

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Chengalpattu has 571 254 inhabitants. Of these, 53.9 percent are classified as urban and 46.1 percent as rural population. The population density is 739 inhabitants per square kilometer.
