Cheyyur (Taluk)

The Taluk Cheyyur (Tamil: செய்யூர் வட்டம் ) is a taluk ( subdistrict ) of Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Is the capital of the eponymous place Cheyyur.

Geography

The Taluk Cheyyur located in the south of the district of Kanchipuram on the coast of the Gulf of Bengal. It borders on the taluks Maduranthakam in the west and Tirukalukundram to the north and to the district Viluppuram in the south. In the north of the Palar River limits the Taluk Cheyyur.

The Taluk Cheyyur is congruent with the block Chithamur and Lathur. Its area is 616.9 square kilometers.

Population

According to the 2011 census, the taluk has Cheyyur 196 807 inhabitants. Compared with other parts of the district of Kanchipuram Taluk of Cheyyur is very rural dominated and relatively sparsely populated: 86.2 percent of the population are classified as rural and 13.8 percent as urban population. The population density is 330 inhabitants per square kilometer, the lowest of all the taluks in the district of Kanchipuram.
