Tambaram (Taluk)
The Taluk Tambaram (Tamil: தாம்பரம் வட்டம் ) is a taluk ( subdistrict ) of Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Capital is the eponymous city Tambaram.
Geography
The Tambaram Taluk lies in the north- east of the district Kanchipuram in the suburban belt of the metropolis Chennai ( Madras). It is bordered by the Alandur taluks in the north, Sholinganallur in the east, Chengalpattu and Sriperumbudur in the south to the west.
With an area of only 20.2 square kilometers Tambaram is the smallest Taluk of the district of Kanchipuram.
Population
According to the 2011 census, the taluk Tambaram has 390 279 inhabitants. Its proximity to the metropolis of Chennai Taluk is highly urbanized and densely populated: 92.7 percent of the population as urban, only 7.3 per cent classified as rural. The population density of 19,320 inhabitants per square kilometer.
History
The Tambaram taluk was divided into three taluks Tambaram, Sholinganallur and Alandur 2009.
