Chicago House

(Sometimes also called Classic House) Chicago House is the original form of today's house music.

History

In the late 1970s, the DJ Frankie Knuckles put disco classics - were particularly popular at that time plates of New York's Salsoul label - on and Euro imports in the Chicago club scene Warehouse. At this time the commercial sell- disco was as good as over and the disco music returned to its origins back into the ground. Opened in 1977, Warehouse was one of the few clubs in Chicago. It was a seedy club for homosexuals, who had, however, boast a good sound system. As Frankie Knuckles the laying vulgar disco music was too boring, he started it with Soul - primarily Philly Soul -, P- funk and electronic music from Europe such as to imaginative power plant and mix escalating collagen. From now on, more and more black DJs, soul and funk tunes with Kraftwerk -infected dance beats began to refresh.

In the record stores the audience soon spoke only of "that sound They play down the house " ( in German: " the sound that is played in the house down "). Thus, the new music was finally her name and the great -house saw the light of the world.

The development of Chicago house was now particularly influenced by technological innovations on the basis of simple bass lines and a "four- to- the-floor " rhythm. Very characteristic are the most frequently used piano loops. Already in 1981, founded the " DJ association" Hot Mix 5, 1987, resulting in an eponymous label was born.

From the beginning, the Chicago producer and label landscape was characterized by envy and resentment. This was particularly strongly supported outwards at the well-known label DJ International and Trax Records. Thus came to Trax Records the plate Hey Rocky! Boris Badenough out, which was considered Diss by Rocky Jones, the founder and former owner of DJ International. Was mixed plate of Frankie Knuckles, which in turn also got a bad reputation after he, at the same time sold several pieces that he recorded with Jamie Principle behind his back to Trax Records and DJ International. Jamie then took the track Knucklehead on, and Frankie Knuckles left Chicago.

Furthermore, were also sold pieces of producers to DJs, so that they could publish on their behalf and thereby arrived coveted DJ bookings. That one with " Dj Jobs " could earn a lot of money, especially in Europe, the Chicago scene was initially seen in the example of Marshall Jefferson, who was not a DJ, but should definitely be booked by an English club. He made them clear beginning, he was not a DJ, but after you had commanded him 1000 GBP, he quickly changed his mind and became a DJ.

From the beginning, there was the Chicago House differentiation between " track" and "Songs ". " Tracks " were the rougher, mostly purely based on rhythmic pieces such as Time To Jack by Chip E.. Songs, however, were called the pieces under construction on the classic song writing based such as Love Can not Turn Around by Farley " Jackmaster " Funk & Jesse Saunders.

As it turned out formed in the late 1980s, new styles of House - How Deep House, Garage House or Acid House - one spoke soon only of House Music. The term Chicago House is used but still loves to delineate the original house style of recent developments.
