Chip Foose

Chip Foose ( born October 13, 1963 in Santa Barbara, California ) is an American car tuner, designers and builders. He runs a hot rod shop and is the star of the series " Overhaulin ' " that is broadcast among other things on the TV channel DMAX.

Life

Foose collected at the age of seven years, first experiences with cars when he ( Project Design ) in Santa Barbara (California), could help in his father's workshop. He began in 1982, inspired by the designer Alex Tremulis, studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (California), which, however, he had to stop again because of financial problems after two years. Foose worked for four years at ASHA Corporation, an auto parts and accessories manufacturers, and then returned to the Art Center back to complete his studies. After graduating in 1990 he was hired by the company Ster Berger style. Part-time also he worked for Boyd Coddington 's Hot Rod Shop. 1993 Foose by J Mays, the chief designer of the Ford Motor Company lured away. Foose announced at Rochester Berger design, but could be convinced of Boyd Coddington to work with him. Foose worked in the follow- up to the CEO of Coddington's company high. During his time at Coddington was Foose for the design of several hot rods, such as the Boydster I and II, in charge.

In 1998, Boyd Coddington 's Hot Rod Shop was facing bankruptcy, Foose founded together with his wife Lynne own company called Foose Design in Huntington Beach, California. Through his departure to Foose quarreled with Coddington. Foose said in an interview in 2006, Coddington no longer wanted to talk to him since his dismissal. As one of the main reasons for the dispute is stated that Foose took several staff members of Coddington with in his company. The show American Hot Rod is concerned in an episode with this issue.

After the American TV channel TLC ( Speedbird called ) aired in 2003 a documentary about the design and construction of a 2002 Foose modified Ford Thunderbird, the attention grew for Foose. In 2004, TLC began airing the TV series Overhaulin ', restored in the Foose and his team have a classic car per episode and modified. 2006 produced the model car manufacturer under the name Johnny Lightning JL Full Throttle a set of model cars, the creations of Foose Design had a role model. At the SEMA 2006 ( Specialty Equipment Market Association show), it was announced that Foose and Ford have signed a contract for the construction of vehicles, designed by Foose. The first model of this collaboration was presented at the New York Auto Show 2007 the audience.

2007 Foose advised the architects of the end of 2007 completed and $ 275 million expensive Detroit Motor City Casino. He designed a number of styling elements that are to be seen in and around the casino.

Foose is committed to the Progeria Research Foundation, after his sister died of this disease. He is now the Vice President of the Foundation.

Foose continues to operate Foose Design his company, also works as a design consultant for Ford, General Motors and Chrysler and enters Overhaulin 'on. The series is co-produced by him. He lives with his wife and their two children Brock and Katie in Southern California.

Awards

Foose enjoys widespread recognition for his designs and creations:

  • He was inducted in 1997 as the youngest member of the Hot Rod Hall of Fame, as well as in 2002 in the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Museum Hall of Fame, 2003 in the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame and in 2005 into the San Francisco Rod and Custom Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
  • He won the 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster Award. Some of the excellent cars were designed by Foose, and then from other vehicle makers such as Boyd Coddington, Barry White, and Bobby Alloway built.
  • Foose won the Autorama Ridler Award in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
  • Foose was also 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001 won the The Good Guys Street Rod of the Year Award.
