Christian Gross

Christian Jürgen Gross [gro ː s] ( born August 14, 1954 in Zurich ) is a Swiss football manager and former football player. Most recently, he coached from May 2011 to April 2012 the Swiss first division club BSC Young Boys in Berne.

Career as a player

Gross, son of a policeman, began his playing career at Grasshopper Club Zurich, which he left in 1975. After three years at Lausanne-Sports and two seasons in the jersey of Neuchâtel Xamax in 1980 when he joined the German Bundesliga for VfL Bochum. For the Bochum Gross played 29 Bundesliga games in which he scored four goals. He returned to Switzerland and still played in four seasons for FC St. Gallen and in three seasons for FC Lugano. Gross graduated from an international match for Switzerland.

Career as a coach

In 1988, Gross to FC Wil, where he participated as player-coach in the fourth- highest division, the 2nd league worked. During his tenure ( 1988-1993 ) increased the Wiler with Gross in a train on the 1st League in the National League B (now Challenge League) on.

Grasshopper Club Zurich and Tottenham

In 1993, Great for Grasshopper Club Zurich, with whom he was champion (1995 and 1996) twice and twice qualified for the Champions League. FC Basel

Gross was from 1 July 1999 until the end of the 2008/ 09 FC Basel coach, the first league title in three years he led since 1980. Previously, the FC Basel was drafted under Great in the final of the Intertoto Cup. 2002 and 2008, Gross qualified with FC Basel for the Champions League. 2004, 2005 and 2008 was won by FC Basel the second, third and fourth league title under Gross. 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008, he won the Swiss Cup FCB (Swisscom Cup).

FC Basel and United broke their contract to the end of the 2008/09 season.

VfB Stuttgart

On 6 December 2009, the United coach of VfB Stuttgart, with whom he signed a fixed-term contract until June 2011; he replaced Markus Babbel. BSC Young Boys

In he summer break 2011, the Berner Sport Club Young Boys Gross committed as successor to Vladimir Petković for the season 2011/12. On 29 April 2012, he was released after the previous nine league games only four points were obtained.
