Christophe Rousset

Christophe Rousset ( born April 12, 1961 in Avignon ) is a French harpsichordist and conductor.

Life and work

Christophe Rousset, grew up in Aix en Provence, was 13 years old was an avid harpsichordist. He first received harpsichord lessons with André Raynaud, then with Huguette Dreyfus at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, with Kenneth Gilbert and Bob van Asperen.

In 1983, he made ​​his concert exam and received in the same year the first prize at the 7th Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges Harpsichord ( which was previously awarded to Scott Ross only once in 1971 ). Christophe Rousset performs regularly at renowned festivals and played with major Baroque Ensemble: The Academy of Ancient Music, Musica Antiqua Köln, Il Seminario Musicale and La Petite Bande. As assistant of William Christie with Les Arts Florissants he first had the opportunity of ensemble conducting

In 1989 he played the Pièces de clavecin by Jean -Philippe Rameau completely. This and his subsequent complete recording (1992-1994) by François Couperin's harpsichord works were awarded with several prizes. In 1991 he was appointed lecturer at the Paris Conservatory.

In 1992 he founded the ensemble, Les Talens Lyriques. It leads to Italian madrigals, French " Airs de Cour ", Venetian and Neapolitan Opere serie, French Opéras comiques and Tragédies lyriques with him.

In 1993 he was awarded the Diapason d'Or for his recording of the harpsichord works " Pièces de clavecin " by Joseph -Nicolas- Pancrace Royer.

In 1994 he recorded the soundtrack to the film Farinelli with Les Talens Lyriques.

In 1995 he received the Cannes Classical Award for his recording of the Bach Partitas.

In 1996 premiere of George Frideric Handel opera Riccardo Primo along with Les Talens Lyriques. He also received the German Record Critics' Award for his recording of the harpsichord works of Gaspard le Roux.

For his interpretation of the overtures of Rameau, he won the 1998 Gramophone Award for Best Baroque instrumental music playback. He takes on music together with the Academy of Ancient Music on: harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, chamber music by Marin Marais with Christophe Coin viola da gamba and harpsichord concertos by Bach all. Since 2000, Christophe Rousset divides his time between working as a soloist, conductor and every summer as a teacher at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
